"Nancy Peretsman, of investment bank Allen & Co., said the crisis exposed the dangers of not understanding complex businesses. 'We've grown these institutions that are very hard for their boards of directors to understand, very hard for their employees to understand,' as well as difficult to fathom for their accountants and shareholders, she said. 'We've gotten to a point of creating something that's incomprehensible.'"
